Scarce metals in High tech article June 6, 2009

The discover magazine July/ August issue has an article on six metals that are limited in source, but very needed in technology – tantalum, lithium, platinum, palladium, indium, and the rare-earths lumped n as a class. Each has a few paragraphs on its uses and on current commercial sources. Just more fodder toi chew on. The US currently has no policy on these types of valuable elements, while our economic competitors – Japan, South Korea, China, and the European Community do. It seems US industry will have another millstone to drag along.
